Tattoo Prices Adelaide, What You Should Know Before Booking
Tattoo Prices Adelaide, What You Should Know Before Booking
One of the most common questions we get at Inkdulgence Tattoo is, “how much will my tattoo cost?”
The honest answer is, it depends on the tattoo.
Tattoo pricing is based on the size, detail, placement, style, artist, design time and how long the tattoo is expected to take. A small simple tattoo may be quick and straightforward, while a sleeve, cover-up, realism piece or detailed custom tattoo may need a half day, full day or multiple sessions.
At Inkdulgence Tattoo in Marden, we quote tattoos as clearly as possible so you know what to expect before booking. We are not trying to be the cheapest tattoo studio in Adelaide, we are focused on clean work, proper hygiene, strong designs and tattoos that are done properly.
How much does a tattoo cost in Adelaide?
Tattoo prices in Adelaide vary depending on the studio, artist and type of tattoo.
At Inkdulgence, tattoos are generally priced in one of three ways:
By the piece for smaller tattoos
Half-day rates for medium or more involved pieces
Day rates for larger tattoos and longer sessions
Each artist has their own rate, depending on their experience, style and the type of work they do.
As a general guide, our studio minimum is usually $150. For truly tiny tattoos, think something extremely small like a single dot, we may occasionally price from $100, but this depends on the tattoo, artist and setup involved.
The best way to get an accurate tattoo quote is to send through your design idea, placement, rough size and any reference images. You can send us a DM or enquiry and we’ll let you know what information we need.
Why tattoo prices vary
Two tattoos can be the same size but very different in price.
A simple outline tattoo may be much quicker than a detailed black and grey realism piece. A small fine line tattoo may look simple, but it still needs careful placement, clean linework and proper setup. A cover-up may take extra design time because the artist has to work with the existing tattoo underneath.
Tattoo pricing can be affected by:
Size
Detail
Placement
Style
Artist
Artist experience
Design time
Colour or black and grey
Whether it is a cover-up or fresh skin
How well the area takes ink
Whether it is priced by the piece, half day or full day
How many sessions are needed
This is why we prefer to quote properly instead of throwing out random prices without seeing the idea first.
Small tattoo prices
Small tattoos are usually quoted by the piece.
These may include simple symbols, small script, small fine line tattoos, flash designs, small matching tattoos or simple blackwork pieces.
Even small tattoos still need proper setup, sterile equipment, single-use supplies and time from the artist. That is why most professional tattoo studios have a minimum charge.
At Inkdulgence, our usual minimum is $150, with the occasional exception for truly tiny tattoos from $100, depending on the tattoo and artist.
If you are after a small tattoo, the best thing to send us is:
Your design or reference image
The size in centimetres
Where you want it placed
Whether you want black, shading or colour
Small tattoos are often suitable for walk-in tattoos in Adelaide, depending on artist availability.
Half-day and day rate tattoos
For larger or more involved tattoos, pricing may be based on a half-day or full-day rate.
This is common for tattoos that need more time, such as larger black and grey pieces, realism, Japanese-inspired work, neo-traditional tattoos, detailed custom pieces, sleeves and cover-ups.
A half-day or day rate can make more sense than trying to price every small section separately, especially when the artist is dedicating a larger block of time to your tattoo.
Each artist has different rates, so the quote will depend on who is doing the tattoo and what the project involves.
Fine line tattoo prices
Fine line tattoos can vary a lot in price depending on the design.
A tiny simple fine line tattoo may be quick, while a detailed fine line floral piece, ornamental design or delicate script tattoo may take much longer.
Fine line tattoos need clean linework, good placement and the right design size so they heal well over time. If the design is too small or too detailed for the area, we may recommend adjusting it so it works better as a tattoo.

Sleeve tattoo prices
Sleeve tattoos are larger projects and are usually completed over multiple sessions.
The final cost depends on the artist, style, amount of detail, whether it is black and grey or colour, how much of the arm is being tattooed and how much design work is involved.
A full sleeve can take many hours across several appointments. A half sleeve is usually less time than a full sleeve, but it can still be a serious project depending on the design.
For sleeves and larger custom pieces, we recommend booking a consultation so the artist can understand the idea, placement and overall plan properly.
Cover-up tattoo prices
Cover-up tattoos often cost more than a fresh tattoo of a similar size because they are more complex.
The artist has to work with the existing tattoo, the darkness of the old ink, the shape, placement and what designs will realistically cover it. Some cover-ups need to be larger or darker than the original tattoo to work properly.
Not every tattoo can be covered with every idea. We will always give honest advice about what is realistic.
If you are considering covering an old tattoo, send clear photos in natural lighting and let us know what you would ideally like over it.
Custom tattoo prices
Custom tattoos are priced based on the work involved.
A custom tattoo may need design time, reference images, layout planning and adjustments to suit your body. This is especially important for larger tattoos, sleeves, cover-ups, realism, Japanese-inspired work, black and grey pieces and detailed designs.
For custom work, it is best to start with a consultation or enquiry so we can match you with the right artist and give you a realistic quote.

Do you ever run tattoo specials?
Yes, sometimes.
We may run flash tattoo days, apprentice flash specials, passion piece promos or special offers when artists want to take on specific designs or styles.
These are usually announced on our social media, so the best way to catch those opportunities is to keep an eye on our Instagram and Facebook.
Promos and flash specials are limited and depend on artist availability, design size, placement and the terms of the offer.
Do you charge hourly?
Most of our pricing is quoted by the piece, half day or full day, depending on the tattoo.
Some projects may still be estimated based on the time involved, but we will explain the pricing structure before the booking is locked in.
We aim to keep pricing clear, fair and realistic. The quote depends on the actual tattoo, the artist and the work involved, not just a generic size chart.
Is a deposit required?
Yes, deposits are required to secure tattoo bookings.
A deposit helps lock in the appointment time and covers the artist’s preparation and design time. Deposit terms may vary depending on the tattoo, artist and booking type.
If you need to reschedule, make sure you give enough notice and follow the studio’s booking policy.
Are walk-in tattoos cheaper?
Not always.
Walk-in tattoos are often smaller and simpler, so they may cost less than larger booked pieces. But they still require proper setup, sterile supplies, artist time and professional tattooing.
A small walk-in tattoo will still be quoted based on the design, size, placement and artist.
Why we do not give exact prices without seeing the design
We get it, everyone wants a quick price.
But a proper tattoo quote needs context. A few centimetres difference in size, a tricky placement or extra detail can change the time involved.
To quote properly, we need to know:
What you want
Where you want it
How big you want it
Whether it is black and grey or colour
Whether it is fresh skin or a cover-up
Whether you have a specific artist in mind
The more detail you send, the easier it is for us to give you a useful answer.
Do you offer free tattoo consultations?
Yes, free tattoo consultations are available.
Consultations are helpful for larger tattoos, custom designs, cover-ups, sleeves and anything that needs more planning. They also help you understand the process, pricing and what is realistic before booking.
You can send us a DM or enquiry to get started.
